LSP opens Munich office

Life Science Partners has appointed Joachim Rothe to co-head the firm’s new German offices in Munich.

Life Science Partners (LSP), the Netherlands-based private equity firm, has announced the opening of a new German office in Munich. Joachim Rothe, former MD at MPM Capital, has joined LSP as a partner to lead LSP’s German operations jointly with Mark Wegter, a partner at LSP since early 2001.

LSP managing partner Martijn Kleijwegt said the decision to open the Munich office was part of the company’s European ‘building block’ strategy to establish the firm as a leading player in the European life sciences sector. He added that the new office represented “an important enhancement to [LSP’s] presence in the German-speaking region of Europe.”

Before joining LSP, Dr Rothe was a principal at US firm MPM Capital. Rothe served on the board of Novirio Pharmaceuticals, Omrix and Viacell. Previous experience includes time spent at McKinsey & Company, where he worked as an engagement manager on assignments in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

LSP is a European venture capital firm focusing on private investments in the area of human biotechnology and medical devices. The fund has E170m capital under management and has invested in companies in Europe, the US and Israel.
