Miragen racks up $40 mln, will merge with Signal Genetics

Boulder, Colorado-based Miragen Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company, has raised $40 million in funding. The investors included Fidelity Management and Research Company, Brace Pharma Capital, Atlas Venture, Boulder Ventures, JAFCO Co Ltd., MP Healthcare Venture Management, MRL Ventures and Remeditex Ventures. Also, in conjunction with the funding, Miragen has agreed to merge with Carlsbad, California-based Signal Genetics Inc, a molecular diagnostics company. No financial terms were disclosed. Cantor Fitzgerald is provider of financial advice to Signal on the deal. After the merger closes, Signal will be renamed Miragen Therapeutics, Inc and apply to list its new ticker symbol as "MGEN" on the NASDAQ.
