Pennsylvania SERS’ investment director leaves for AEGON

Brandon Halm, Pennsylvania State Employees’ Retirement System’s director of alternative investments, left the pension fund after almost three years.

Pennsylvania State Employees’ Retirement System’s (SERS) director of alternative investments Brandon Halm has left to join AEGON USA Investment Management, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Halm served at SERS from July 2013 until February, and joined AEGON as director of private equity and mezzanine this month, his account said.

He previously spent more than six years as an investment professional at Calvert Street Capital Partners in Baltimore, where he assisted in managing CSCP’s Funds II and III.

Before that, Halm was an analyst advising on transportation and logistics and energy and power companies at Stifel Nicolaus for almost two years, according to his LinkedIn profile.

SERS former director of alternative investments, Michael Beblo, died in August after heart surgery, aged 62, as reported by Private Equity International.

SERS manages $25.92 billion in assets and committed $100 million to Advent International Global Private Equity VIII, $100 million to Ardian’s ASF VII B, and $50 million to Ardian’s ASF VII PA Co-Investment Fund in January, according to PEI Research & Analytics.

Reports say SERS’ private equity team has decreased amid its two-year strategic investment plan approved in December to increase the annual commitments to private equity to $750 million from $500 million.

AEGON manages $124.5 billion and invests between $300 million and $400 million per year to private equity, according to PEI data.
