Piper Jaffray rounds out FoF team(2)

Piper Jaffray has finished the construction of its fund of funds team with the addition of Mike Pohlen from the firm’s investment banking team.

Piper Jaffray has added an eleventh professional to its fund of funds team. Mike Pohlen will move from the firm’s investment banking division to the fund of funds team, where he will be a vice president working on venture capital, leveraged buyouts and direct investments.

Pohlen focussed on lower middle market mergers and acquisitions in the investment banking division. Before joining Piper Jaffray, he worked at Canadian private equity firm TerraVest Income Fund and co-founded a small cap portfolio group at hedge fund Deephaven Capital Management.

The Minnesota investment firm began assembling its fund of funds team in 2006, and February of this year closed what a spokesman said is the first ever cleantech-focussed fund of funds on $62.5 million (€42.7 million). The fund was 2.5 times oversubscribed, the spokesman said, and committed to funds including Nth Power and VantagePoint Venture Partners.

Pohlen’s hire marks the completion of the fund of funds team, said head of private capital Scott Barrington in a statement
