Qvella nets $20 mln in Series A round co-led by RA Capital, Whitecap

Qvella, a Canadian molecular diagnostics company, has secured US$20 million in Series A financing. The round was co-led by U.S. healthcare investor RA Capital Management and Canadian venture capital firm Whitecap Venture Partners, and was joined by Hatteras Venture Partners and Sands Capital Ventures. Toronto-based Qvella is a developer of pathogen detection technology that obtains more time-efficient diagnostic results. Led by President and CEO Tino Alavie, the company plans to use the new funding to support on-going product development and expansion of its team. Whitecap announced a pre-Series A investment in Qvella when the firm closed Whitecap III LP at $100 million in June.
