Silver Lake hires top Cisco exec

Cisco’s chief development officer, Charles Giancarlo, will join Silver Lake Partners as a managing director in January, as the firm raises $10 billion for its fourth buyout fund.

US tech-focussed private equity firm Silver Lake Partners has hired Charles Giancarlo, currently chief development officer at communications and IT company Cisco Systems, as a managing director. Giancarlo will join Silver Lake on 1 January.

Charles Giancarlo

Giancarlo first joined Cisco in 1993 when it acquired ethernet switching company Kalpana, where he was vice president of marketing and corporate development. His first position at Cisco was vice president of business development, where he developed the company’s merger and acquisition strategy.

Before joining Kalpana, he co-founded Adaptive Corporation, which developed products for the local area network (LAN) market. He also founded four companies in communications equipment, two of which were later sold to corporations.

Silver Lake focusses entirely on the technology sector. The firm is in the midst of raising $10 billion (€696 million) for its fourth buyout fund, and $1 billion for its debut middle market fund.
