UBS has hired Matthew Eilers, a senior managing director in the financial sponsors group at Morgan Stanley, to co-head its global financial sponsors business, according to an internal memo seen by Private Equity International.
Eilers will take up the position in August, heading up the global financial sponsors business alongside Simona Maellare. Maellare, based in London, joined UBS from Bank of America Merrill Lynch in 2014 as co-head of the bank’s sponsor business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
UBS confirmed the appointments.
Eilers, who started his career at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in 1991, had held his role at Morgan Stanley since 2006. At UBS he will be based in New York, and will also lead the Americas financial sponsors team, which has been led by interim head Brendan Dillon since Michael Stopnik left the firm to become joint head of the US financial sponsors group at RBC Capital Markets at the end of last year.
Dillon will continue as global co-head of leveraged finance at the Swiss bank.
