Lumira co-leads $25 mln financing of Antios Therapeutics

Atlanta-based biopharmaceutical company Antios Therapeutics Inc has raised US$25 million in a Series A financing. The round was led by Canadian life sciences venture capital firm Lumira Ventures and U.S. firm Domain Associates. Other investors, including Fonds de solidarité FTQ, also participated. Lumira Managing Director Beni Rovinski has joined the board. Antios is focused on developing novel antiviral therapies for unmet medical needs. The funds raised will be used to develop ATI-2173, the company's lead oral drug candidate for treating patients infected with Hepatitis B virus and potentially Hepatitis D.

Video-based practice platform Rehearsal

Reno, Nevada and Germany-based Rehearsal, a video-based practice platform, has secured $2 million in funding. The investor was Cypress Growth Capital.

Wave Computing lands $86 mln Series E

Silicon Valley-based Wave Computing, an artificial intelligence company, has raised $86 million in Series E funding. The lead investor was Oakmont Corporation.

ViaCyte nabs $80 mln Series D

San Diego-based ViaCyte Inc, a privately-held clinical stage regenerative medicine company, has secured $80 million in Series D financing. The investors included Bain Capital Life Sciences, TPG and RA Capital Management.

Aprea Therapeutics picks up Series C funding

Boston and Stockholm-based Aprea Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing novel anticancer therapies targeting the p53 tumor suppressor protein, has secured 50 million euros in Series C financing. Redmile Group led the round with participation from Rock Springs Capital, 5AM Ventures, Versant Ventures, HealthCap, Sectoral Asset Management and Karolinska Development AB.

Differential Ventures recruits Magerman as managing partner

Differential Ventures, a seed and early-stage venture firm, has named David Magerman as managing partner. Magerman is a former research scientist and head of production at hedge fund management firm Renaissance Technologies.

BluWave-ai closes $1 mln pre-seed round, Ecofuel invests

BluWave-ai, an Ottawa-based renewable energy usage software platform, has raised more than $1 million in a pre-seed financing. Angel and institutional investors backed the round. They included Ecofuel Fund, a seed fund affiliated with Canadian clean technology venture capital firm Cycle Capital Management. Founded last year by CEO Devashish Paul, BluWave-ai's technology uses artificial intelligence to enhance renewable energy usage in smart grids for electric utilities. The startup, which is part of Ecofuel Accelerator's fall 2018 cohort, is planning to raise a seed round targeted at $2 million.

Lentesplus.com inks $5 mln Series A

Lentesplus.com, an e-commerce platform for contact lenses in Latin America, has raised $5 million in Series A funding. The investors included Palm Drive Capital, IGNIA and InQlab.

MondoBrain procures $13.3 mln Series A

Virginia-based MondoBrain, a provider of an augmented intelligence platform, has secured $13.3 million in Series A funding. Japia led the round.

NCK Capital buys City Wide

NCK Capital has acquired Dallas-based City Wide Building, a commercial building maintenance company. No financial terms were disclosed. XLS Partners served as M&A adviser to City Wide on the transaction. City Wide was backed by Double R Partners.
