Brookfield's new VC fund invests $15 mln in BuildingConnected

BuildingConnected, a San Francisco-based provider of communication software to the construction industry, has raised US$15 million in new funding. The round's sole investor was Brookfield Ventures, the new venture capital fund of Canada's Brookfield Asset Management. BuildingConnected's software is designed for real estate owners and general contractors to facilitate selecting contractors for construction projects. Also backed by Crosslink Capital, Lightspeed Ventures and others, the company will use the funds raised to expand its geographic footprint and develop new products.

Ana Quintana named managing partner at Black Diamond Ventures

Glendale, California-based Black Diamond Ventures, which focuses on early to mid-stage companies in biotech, medical devices, semiconductor design, data science and mobile applications, announced it has promoted Ana Quintana to managing partner. Quintana joined the firm as a director in 2000 and has participated as an operating partner in several startups. She was most recently a principal at the firm, according to her LinkedIn profile. She is also co-founder of She Ventures in Tech, which provides entrepreneurial support for women with existing tech startups.

GitPrime raises $10.5 mln

Durango, Colorado-based GitPrime, a provider of software engineering analytics, announced it has raised $10.5 million in Series A funding led by OpenView. Existing investor Data Collective also participated in the round. The company, which was a member of the Y Combinator 2016 Winter batch, has now raised $13 million in total funding. As part of the latest round, Mackey Craven, a partner at OpenView, has joined the board.

Milk Stork raises $900,000

Milk Stork has raised $900,000 in seed financing led by Clif White Road Investments. The Urban Innovation Fund and angel investors participated in the round. Milk Stork is a breast milk shipping company.

SEMrush raises $40 mln

SEMrush said April 24 that raised $40 million in funding led by Greycroft, Siguler Guff, and e.ventures. SEMrush provides competitive intelligence and an analytics platform for digital marketing professionals.

Venrock healthcare survey shows pessimism on drug pricing

Skepticism remains high that the drug pricing debate will lead to action despite the FDA vowing to combat high drug prices. That was one of the findings in a survey of 300 healthcare experts conducted by the venture firm Venrock. A majority of those polled said that they believe there will still be more talk than action on prescription drug prices, with 19 percent believing that nothing will happen with prescription drug prices.

Savari said it raised $12 million of Series B funding in a round led by Aviva Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of insurer Aviva. Existing investors SAIC Capital and Flex participated in the financing, along with an unnamed strategic investor.

Improvado.io said it raised a $3 million seed round from 15 individual investors, including Jeff Epstein of Bessemer Venture Partners, Ethan Beard of Greylock Partners and Charlie Songhurst of Katana Capital.
