IVP bulks up team with three hires

Late-stage investor IVP announced it has added three people to its investment team: James Black, who was previously with Qatalyst Partners and Canva; Becca Faust, who joins from Goldman Sachs; and Karthik Ramakrishnan, who was also at Qatalyst Partners and was with Choosy.

Chegg to buy VC-backed Thinkful for $80 mln

Chegg Inc has agreed to acquire Thinkful, an online learning platform, for $80 million. The deal is expected to close early in the fourth quarter of 2019. Thinkful's backers included Owl Ventures and Tribeca Venture Partners.

PolyPid raises $50 mln

PolyPid Ltd said Sept. 4 that it raised $50 million in a Series E-1 round led by existing institutional shareholders and including US-based high-net worth investors. National Securities Corp acted as the placement agent for the financing. PolyPid is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing novel, locally administered therapies.

Elliptic raises $23 mln

Elliptic said Sept. 4 that it raised $23 million in a Series B round led by SBI Group. AlbionVC participated in the round along with existing investors including SignalFire, Octopus Ventures, and Santander Innoventures. Elliptic provides of crypto-asset risk management solutions for crypto businesses and financial institutions.

VillageMD raises $100 mln

VillageMD said Sept. 4 that it raised $100 million in a Series B funding round. Kinnevik AB, which led the round, invested $75 million. Returning investor Oak HC/FT along with new investors Town Hall Ventures and Adams Street Partners participated. VillageMD provides primary care for organizations moving toward a primary care-led, clinical model.

VC-backed Bolt taps Schatzman as CEO

Redwood City, California-based Bolt Biotherapeutics, a biotech firm focused on treating cancer, has named Dr. Randall Schatzman as CEO and a member of the board of directors. Previously, he was CEO of Alder BioPharmaceuticals Inc. Bolt's backers included Novo Holdings, Pivotal bioVenture Partners, Vivo Capital and Nan Fung Life Sciences.

PSG hires Marcus as MD

Adam Marcus has joined Providence Strategic Growth Capital Partners LLC as a managing director. He is based in the firm's Boston office. Previously, Marcus was a partner at OpenView Venture Partners.

Kabbage to buy VC-backed Radius Intelligence

Kabbage Inc has agreed to acquire assets of Radius Intelligence, a small business data platform. No financial terms were disclosed. Radius Intelligence's backers included Formation 8 Partners, Founders Fund, Glynn Capital Management, Slow Ventures, Western Technology Investments, Yuan Capital and Jared Leto. Kabbage is backed by SoftBank Vision Fund, BlueRun Ventures and Mohr Davidow Ventures.

Mistral Venture Partners leads seed round for Edly

New York-based Edly, an income share agreement marketplace, has secured an undisclosed amount of seed financing. Mistral Venture Partners led the round.

OrbiMed-backed Bellus Health to list on NASDAQ

Laval, Québec-based clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company Bellus Health Inc has filed for a US$60 million public offering and to list on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol "BLU." Jefferies, Cowen and Guggenheim are serving as lead underwriters. Bellus Health's backers include OrbiMed Advisors LLC, Power Corporation of Canada, Rocabe Investments Inc., New Leaf Venture Partners, First Manhattan Co and Samsara BioCapital.
