Powerplant Ventures is seeking to raise $100 million for its second fund, according to an SEC filing. Based in Manhattan Beach, California, the emerging-stage growth equity firm invests in consumer food, beverage, and foodservice companies.

Genomics company 10x Genomics has acquired Epinomics, a provider of epigenetic technology. No financial terms were disclosed. 10x Genomics' backers include Venrock, Softbank, Foresite Capital, Fidelity and Meritech Capital. And, Epinomics' backers included Lightspeed Venture Partners, Felicis Ventures and Founders Fund.

Zadara, a provider of zero-risk enterprise cloud storage, has secured $25 million in funding. IGP Capital led the round.

Loot Crate, a subscription commerce platform for fans of entertainment and sports franchises, has secured $23 million in funding. Atalaya Capital led the round.

Makeblock, a STEAM education solution provider headquartered in Shenzen, China, has raised about $44 million in Series C funding. CICC ALPHA led the round with participation from other investors that included Yuexiu Industrial Investment Fund, GX Capital and Everest Capital.

Andreessen Horowitz has promoted Angela Strange to general partner. The announcement was made on the venture firm's site by General Partner Alex Rampell. According to Strange's LinkedIn profile, she first joined Andreessen Horowitz as a partner in November 2014. Her past work credentials include serving as a product manager at Google.

Paravel, a luggage and accessories brand, has secured $3.2 million in seed funding. The lead investors were 8VC and Fitz Gate Ventures.

Biotech firm RootPath picks up $7 mln

Cambridge, Massachusetts-based RootPath, a biotechnology company, has raised $7 million in seed funding. Sequoia China led the round with participation from Volcanics Venture, BV and Nest.Bio Ventures. RootPath was launched in 2017 by life sciences venture capital and incubation firm Nest.Bio.

Fintech startup Pagaya snags $14 mln Series B

New York and Tel Aviv-based Pagaya, a fintech startup, has raised $14 million in Series B funding. Oak HC/FT and Harvey Golub, former chairman and CEO of American Express, led the round with participation from other investors that included GF Investments and Viola Ventures.
