VC-backed MedLumics taps Greene as CEO and adds one to board

Madrid-based MedLumics, a medical device company, has named James Greene as CEO and Giovanni Leo to its board of directors. Previously, Greene worked at Seroba Lifesciences, a Dublin-based venture firm where he was a partner while Leo was vice president of research and development for St. Jude Medical. MedLumics' backers include Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners, Seroba Lifesciences, Innogest, Ysios and Caixa.

Qool Therapeutics snags $8 mln

Silicon Valley-based Qool Therapeutics, a developer of a targeted temperature management system, has raised $8 million in funding. The investors were Zhongji Holdings LTD/Join Medical Technology, TAMCAP LLC, BrilliMedical International Corp., BioPacific Investors, Western Technology Investment and FundRx.

BetterLesson raises $10 mln from Owl, New Markets, Reach, Dell Foundation

BetterLesson said it raised $10 million of Series B financing in a round led by Owl Ventures. Joining the round are existing investors New Markets Venture Partners, Reach Capital and the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation.

Govtech Fund raises $20.75 mln toward $25 mln target

Govtech Fund has raised $20.75 million toward a targeted $25 million second fund, according to a regulatory filing. The San Francisco-based firm invests in startups in the global government software and IT market, according to its website, and is led by Ron Bouganim. Thus far, 29 investors have committed to the fund.

NeoTribe Ventures collects $113.5 mln for inaugural fund

Silicon Valley-based NeoTribe Ventures, an early-stage venture firm, has raised $113.5 million for its debut fund, according to an SEC filing. The target is $130 million.

Libra procures $7.8 mln Series A

New York City-based Libra, a provider of financial software for the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry, has secured $7.8 million in Series A funding. The backers include Liberty City Ventures, XBTO, Boost VC and Lee Linden.

Synthetic biology startup LabGenius nabs $3.66 mln

London-based synthetic biology startup LabGenius has secured $3.66 million in funding. Kindred Capital and Acequia Capital led the round with participation from other investors that included Backed VC, Beast Ventures, Berggruen Holdings Ltd and System.One.

Balderton Capital rakes in $375 mln for new fund

London-based venture firm Balderton Capital has raised $375 million for its latest fund that will focus on European tech businesses. Fried Frank advised Balderton on the fund.

Medeor Therapeutics scores $57 mln Series B

San Mateo, California-based Medeor Therapeutics Inc, a developer of personalized cellular immunotherapies, has raised $57 million in Series B financing. RA Capital Management led the round with participation from other investors that included Sofinnova Ventures, 6 Dimensions Capital, Vivo Capital and WuXi Healthcare Ventures. In conjunction with the financing, Dr. Peter Kolchinsky, a portfolio manager and managing director at RA Capital and Dr. Anand Mehra, general partner at Sofinnova Ventures, have joined the Medeor's board of directors.

Starwood Capital to buy Sofitel Budapest

Starwood Capital Group has agreed to acquire Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge Hotel from Orbis Hotel Group. The price of the acquisition is 75 million euros.
