Ripcord nabs $40 mln Series B

Ripcord, a robotic digitization company, has secured $40 million in Series B funding. Icon Ventures led the round with participation from Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, Lux Capital and Silicon Valley Bank. In conjunction with the funding, Icon Ventures General Partner Jeb Miller will join Ripcord's board of directors.

Genetic testing startup Color Genomics racks up $80 mln

Color Genomics, a genetic testing startup, has raised $80 million in funding, according to a source familiar with the transaction. Hemant Taneja at General Catalyst, Laurene Powell-Jobs at Emerson Collective and George Zachary at CRV led the round.

MedAware gathers $8 mln Series A

Israel-based MedAware, a provider of solutions that detect and eliminate prescription errors, has raised $8 million in Series A funding. The investors included Becton, Dickinson and Company, Gefen Capital, OurCrowd and Yingcheng City Fubon Technology Co.

Kingo nets $8 mln Series B

Guatemala-based Kingo, a provider of lower-cost, off-grid electricity, has raised $8 million in Series B financing. The investors included FCP, ENGIE, the Dutch Development Bank, Proparco and H-Reff.

Medical device developer VentureMed procures $15 mln Series B

Toledo, Ohio-based VentureMed Group, a medical device company, has raised $15 million in Series B financing. Endeavour Vision led the round with participation from other investors that included RiverVest Venture Partners.

Atreca rakes in $35 mln Series B

Redwood City, California-based Atreca Inc, a biotechnology company focused on developing novel therapeutics, has closed $35 million in Series B financing. The investors included Wellington Management Company and Cormorant Asset Management.

CareAcademy attracts $1.675 mln seed

Boston-based CareAcademy, a provider of online training for senior home care professionals, has raised $1.675 million in seed funding. The company's main investors are Rethink Education, Lumina Foundation and Techstars Venture Capital Fund.

Unity Biotechnology snags additional $35 mln Series B

Unity Biotechnology, Inc, a developer of treatments that prevent, halt, or reverse numerous diseases of aging, has raised an additional $35 million in Series B financing, racking up a total of $151 million. Unity's investors included INVUS Opportunities, Three Lakes Partners, Cycad Group, COM Investments, Pivotal Alpha Limited. ARCH Venture Partners, Baillie Gifford, Fidelity Management and Research Company, Venrock. Bezos Expeditions, Vulcan Capital, Founders Fund, WuXi PharmaTech and Mayo Clinic Ventures.

Fitz Gate Ventures collects $10 mln for maiden fund

Fitz Gate Ventures has raised $10 million for its debut fund. The Princeton, New Jersey-based venture firm mostly backs startups founded, managed or owned by Princeton University alumni, faculty or students. So far it has made undisclosed investments in five early-stage companies.

LVL Technologies grabs $6.75 mln Series A

Austin, Texas-based LVL Technologies Inc, a developer of sensor platforms for wearables, has raised $6.75 million in Series A financing. Samsung Catalyst Fund led the round with participation from other investors that included Maxim Integrated Products Inc.
