Twitter has agreed to acquire San Francisco-based Smyte, an online security startup, according to an announcement on the former company's blog. Smyte's backers include Avalon Ventures, Baseline Ventures, Founder Collective, Harrison Metal, Upside Partnership and Y Combinator.

Canadian financial services provider Peoples Trust Co has acquired Lendful Financial Inc, a Vancouver-based financial technology company. Terms weren't disclosed. Peoples Trust said the deal adds consumer lending to its product suite. Founded in 2015 by CEO Alex Benjamin, CRO Mitch Salis and CTO Pat Forgione, Lendful provides an online lending marketplace that helps borrowers in Canada save as much as 30 percent when refinancing. The company was backed by Canadian venture capital firms Ferst Capital Partners and Stanley Park Ventures. It also raised funding from Alterna Savings.

Smart Global Holdings Inc has agreed to acquire Penguin Computing Inc, a provider of specialty compute and storage solutions, for up to $85 million. KKR Credit provided the debt financing for this transaction and Needham & Company LLC was financial adviser to Smart Global Holdings. Penguin's backers include vSpring Capital, San Francisco Equity Partners, Weber Capital and Convergence Partners, according to Crunchbase.

Workday Inc has agreed to acquire Palo Alto, California-based Adaptive Insights, a provider of on-demand business performance management software, for about $1.55 billion. Allen & Company LLC is serving as financial adviser to Workday while Morgan Stanley is doing likewise for Adaptive Insights. Adaptive Insights' backers include Bessemer Venture Partners, Founders Circle Capital and Norwest Venture Partners, according to Crunchbase.

Splunk Inc has agreed to acquire Boulder, Colorado-based VictorOps, a real-time incident management platform, for about $120 million. The deal is expected to close during Splunk's fiscal second quarter. VictorOps is backed by Shea Ventures, Foundry Group and Costanoa Ventures.

Sunnyvale, California-based Druva, a provider of cloud data protection services, announced it has acquired CloudRanger for an undisclosed price. With offices in Chicago and Ireland, CloudRanger provides backup and disaster recovery services for AWS and was backed by Enterprise Ireland. Druva is also VC-backed, having raised about $200 million from Sequoia Capital, Tenaya Capital and other investors.
