Victory Park Capital a Chicago-based middle market firm has hired Gordon Watson as principal.
In his role, Watson will primarily oversee sourcing, executing and managing direct private debt and equity investments in specialty finance. He will also oversee investments in public debt securities in middle-market companies.
Watson was previously a portfolio manager centered on distressed debt at GLG Partners, a London-based hedge fund. He joined GLG after it purchased One Hill Partners, a credit-focused hedge fund where Watson served as a partner.
In June, Victory Park brought on Jason Brown as partner to lead the Los Angeles office. The firm also maintains offices in Boston and San Francisco.
Victory Park has been in the news for other notable hires including former US state senator and vice presidential candidate Joseph Lieberman who joined the firm as Chairman of the executive board, PEI reported at the time.
In August, the firm partnered with Square a provider of payment solutions for small businesses to offer financing options for small businesses. Square has advanced nearly $50 million to about 10,000 businesses through Square Capital, which launched in May as a merchant financing operation.
Victory Park has approximately $1.25 billion in assets under management, according to Private Equity International’s research and analytics division.
