VMG promotes former TSG vice president to managing director

The consumer product-focused firm has elevated Kara Cissell-Roell, 33, to the new role while investing its $325m debut fund.

Lower middle market specialist VMG Partners has promoted former TSG Consumer Partners vice president Kara Cissell-Roell to managing director.

Roell, 33, helped launch VMG in 2005 when five of VMG’s current partners spun out of private equity firm The Shansby Group. After the spin-out, Shansby rebranded as TSG Consumer Partners.

At TSG, Roell was involved in the sourcing, due diligence, financing, execution and exit of TSG portfolio companies. Roell previously worked for Arena Capital Partners and as an investment banking analyst for asset management company Schroders.

VMG specialises in acquiring highly branded consumer product companies in the lower middle market, with an emphasis on companies in the lifestyle, wellness, food and beverage, personal care, pet and leisure industries. The firm is currently investing its $325 million debut fund, which closed last year.

VMG portfolio companies include Mighty Leaf, a manufacturer of artisan tea blends; Colorscience, a luxury mineral makeup brand; Waggin’ Train, a marketer of all-natural pet treats and Timbuk2, a manufacturer of carry-all bags and accessories.
