Welsh Carson Anderson & Stowe has hired Charles Berg as its senior operating executive. Berg, 49, was formerly president, chief executive officer and a director at Oxford Health Plans.
“We are delighted to add another senior operating executive like Chuck Berg to our team as we look to take full advantage of our leadership positions in the information and business services and healthcare sectors,” said Paul Queally, general partner of Welsh Carson, in a statement.
Two weeks ago, Welsh Carson lost a general partner, James Matthews, to Evercore Partners. At Welsh Carson, Matthews had specialized in the information and business services sector. He becomes senior managing director and co-head of the private equity group at Evercore.
Before joining Oxford Health Plans in 1998, Berg co-founded Health Partners, a physician network management company. He was previously partner at WSGP Partner, an investment firm which acquires and manages financial institutions and real estate companies. Berg received his JD from Georgetown University Law Center.
Welsh Carson is currently investing $4.7 billion from its equity fund, Welsh Carson Anderson & Stowe X and its subordinated debt fund, WCAS Capital Partners IV. The firm recently acquired private hospital operator Select Medical for $2.3 billion (€1.8 billion), along with Thoma Cressey Equity Partners and Select Medical’s senior management.
