AGF Private Equity hires for venture

Matthieu Baret, formerly of Italian telecom Italtel and Bernauld Arnault’s Europeatweb, has been appointed partner in Paris-based AGF Private Equity’s venture capital team.

AGF Private Equity, the private equity arm of French insurance company AGF, has appointed Matthieu Baret as a partner within its venture capital team.
A spokesperson for AGF Private Equity said that Baret joined the firm earlier this year and will specialise in investments in the telecommunications, IT and electronics sectors.
Prior to joining AGF Private Equity, Baret, 36, was vice president for corporate development and strategic planning at Milan-based Italtel, a private equity-owned telecommunications company.
Baret began his career at French GSM operator Bouygues Telecom as marketing manager before joining Cap Gemini as European marketing manager for internet and multimedia services. After that, he worked at Europeatweb, the investment fund of Bernard Arnault, in charge of technology investments.
Baret’s appointment brings the venture capital team at AGF Private Equity to nine. The team currently manages over €275 million ($346 million) in assets and has invested in over 50 companies to date in the information technology and life sciences sectors. AGF Private Equity invests between €1.5 million to €6 million in each financing round.
Last month, AGF Private Equity strengthened its fund of funds team with the appointment of investment director Jean Plamondon, formerly an associate manager at ING Parcom Equity. The fund of funds arm is currently chasing a €250 million target for its fourth vehicle.
