W. P. Carey Acquires Walgreens Stores and Bearing Tech Headquarters

W. P. Carey & Co. has acquired five retail stores leased to Walgreen Co. The properties, comprising a total of 74,100 square feet, are located in Virginia Beach, Virginia; Florence, Alabama; Snellville, Georgia; Concord, North Carolina and Rockport, Texas. The purchase price was approximately $25 million.

Onex to Purchase KraussMaffei

Onex Corporation is to acquire Munich, Germany-bssed KraussMaffei AG, a manufacturer of plastic and rubber processing equipment, for 568 million euros ($731.5 million). Onex Partners III, Onex’ $4.7 billion flagship private equity fund, will make an equity investment of approximately $340 million, of which Onex’ share is about $86 million as a Limited Partner in the Fund.

Gloople Closes Funding Round

Seed stage London based ecommerce platform specialist, Gloople has closed a £150,000 ($243,000) funding round which was cornerstoned by a £130,000 investment by a syndicate of London Business Angel investors. This first external round of funding will enable the company to launch its SAAS platform across the UK market.

Apnex Medical Closes $10 Million Financing

Apnex Medical has secured financing totaling $10 million from New Enterprise Associates. The funds will be used to support the ongoing Apnex Clinical Study. Apnex develops medical devices aimed at helping people with sleep apnea. Other investors in the company include Domain Associates, Polaris Venture Partners and investor and Apnex chairman Michael Berman.

Advent Reaches Agreement with Majority EKO Shareholders

Ecorse Investments, a company indirectly owned by funds managed by Advent International has reached a binding agreement with Krzysztof and Marzena Gradecki regarding the sale of their stake in EKO Holding Group, the Polish supermarket chain. Krzysztof and Marzena Gradecki are the majority shareholders who currently own 55% of the shares in the business.

Maranon Capital Supports Portfolio Add-on Acquisitions

Maranon Capital has boosted its portfolio with five add-on acquisitions. The deals were completed in the second and third quarters of 2012.

Recruit Acquires Indeed

Recruitment search engine Indeed is to be acquired by Recruit, a provider of integrated HR and information services based in Japan. Indeed was backed by Union Square Ventures.

TreeRing Secures Backing from Angel Funder and Others

TreeRing, a social yearbook company, has closed a $3.6 million investment led by angel funder Mike McCue (CEO of Flipboard), Second Ave Partners and Cedar Grove Investments. Several angel investors also participated in the round including the Expedia and Zillow Founder, Rich Barton.

Xirrus Closes Series Funding on $23.5m

Xirrus, a Wi-Fi device maker based in Thousand Oaks, Calif, has closed a $23.5 million Series E financing round. The funding was led by existing investors August Capital, Canaan Partners, InterWest Partners, QuestMark Partners, and US Venture Partners.
