Three bidding groups have entered the second round in the race for Spanish natural gas distributor Madrileña Red de Gas, owned by Morgan Stanley, sources told Reuters. Canada Pension Plan Investment Board is bidding alongside Allianz and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority for the asset, estimated to be worth between 1.2 billion euros (US$1.3 billion) and 1.8 billion, including debt. Public Sector Pension Investment Board and Arcus have also teamed up to make an offer.

U.S. alternative investment firm Värde Partners has agreed to purchase a 51 percent equity stake in Canaccede Financial Group Ltd, an alternative financial services provider based in London, Ontario. The acquisition's value was not disclosed. As part of the transaction, Värde has agreed to commit up to $275 million of funding for Affirm Financial Services Inc, Canaccede's non-prime consumer lending business in Canada. Värde said the investment will help Canaccede expand and deliver its consumer finance offerings. Last June, Värde raised US$2 billion in the final close of its latest distressed and credit investments fund.

U.S. private equity firms The Carlyle Group and Warburg Pincus have closed their previously announced buy of Toronto-based credit rating agency DBRS. No financial terms were disclosed. Perella Weinberg Partners was financial advisor to DBRS on the transaction, while CIBC World Markets provided financial advice to Carlyle and Warburg Pincus. Update: Reuters reported in December 2014 that the acquisition of DBRS, which was done in partnership with a consortium of Canadian investors and the company's management, was valued at more than US$500 million.

Emerald Expositions LLC, a portfolio company of Canadian private equity firm Onex Corp, has bought two leading trade show and conference businesses. The sellers in the two separate transactions were Vendome Group LLC and Macfadden Communications Group LLC. The financial terms were not published. Based in San Juan Capistrano, California, Emerald Expositions is an operator of business-to-business trade shows and conferences in the United States. It was acquired by Onex for US$950 million in 2013.
