Redwood City, California-based BlueTalon Inc, a provider of data-centric security for big data and new data initiatives, has raised over $16 million in Series A financing. Maverick Ventures led the round with participation from Arsenal Venture Partners, Signia Venture Partners, Data Collective, Divergent Ventures, Bloomberg Beta and Stanford-StartX Fund. In addition to the funding, Matthew Kinsella, a managing director at Maverick Ventures, has been added to BlueTalon's board of directors.

Earlybird Venture Capital has raised an undisclosed amount of funding for its Germany-based health tech fund. Earlybird Health Tech Fund's backers include NRW.BANK, the Generali Insurance Group, Miele and Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The fund's target is 100 million to 120 million euros.

Israeli biopharma company BioLineRX Ltd and I-Bridge Capital, a Chinese venture fund, have formed iPhama. The joint venture will focus on developing "innovative clinical and pre-clinical therapeutic candidates" mostly in Israel to serve the Chinese and global healthcare markets. According to the terms of the agreement, both BioLineRx and I-Bridge Capital will provide $1 million in seed funding to iPhama.
