Staples Inc is in takeover talks with a small number of buyout shops, the Wall Street Journal reported. The story did not disclose names of the private equity firms. Staples could fetch a price of $7 billion or more, the WSJ said. Staples, of Framingham, Massachusetts, is an office-supply chain.

Public Pension Capital and FiveW Capital have acquired Viteos Fund Services. Financial terms weren’t announced. Viteos, of Somerset, New Jersey, provides back office outsourcing for the hedge fund industry. Monroe Capital is providing funding. Credit Suisse acted as financial advisor to Viteos.

TA Associates has invested in Babilou Group. Financial terms weren’t announced. The founding Carle family will remain majority investor of Babilou, while Cobepa, Société Générale and Raise are also shareholders. Babilou, of Paris, provider daycare services in France. Rothschild, Acetis Finance and KPMG served as financial advisors and Linklaters, Jeausserand-Audouard and Reboul & Associés served as legal counsel to Babilou. KPMG served as financial advisor and Latham & Watkins served as legal counsel to TA Associates.

Growth Catalyst Partners LLC has launched as a middle market private equity firm in Chicago targeting buyout investments in marketing, information, media and business services sectors. Growth Catalyst was founded by Jim TenBroek, a former managing director at Wind Point Partners and Scott Peters, former Co-President of The Jordan, Edmiston Group Inc. Growth Catalyst has made its first investment in Opus Agency, of Beaverton, Oregon. Opus is a corporate events agency that services the technology sector.

L Catterton Asia has combined its portfolio company Seafolly with Maaji. Financial terms weren’t announced but L Catterton Asia will be the controlling shareholder of the combined business. Founders of both businesses will continue as minority shareholders. Maaji is a Colombian beachwear brand that was co-founded by sisters Manuela and Amalia Sierra. L Catterton Asia is the Asian arm of L Catterton.

Shore Capital Partners said April 4 that its second institutional private equity fund closed at its $190 million hard cap. The original target of Shore Capital Partners Fund II was $150 million, while investor demand for the pool approached $750 million. Fund II’s investors include university endowments, financial institutions, funds of funds and family offices. Shore Capital said it also promoted Chris Mioton to Principal. Kirkland & Ellis LLP served as legal advisor. Shore did not use a placement agent.
