Third Rock Ventures, Prospect Venture Partners and Yasuda Enterprise Development Corp. have poured $27 million into privately held biotechnology company TOPICA Pharmaceuticals. The Series B round will be used for continued development of the company's broad-spectrum topical antifungal agent, the company said Tuesday.

EcoSense Lighting has raised $13 million in Series B financing. Bain Capital Ventures led the round for EcoSense, which develops LED lighting for commercial, industrial and residential use.

Foundation Medicine Inc., a Cambridge, Mass.-based cancer diagnostics company, has added to its Series A financing, closing the round with $33.5 million. New investors Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Google Ventures join Third Rock Ventures in the round. Brook Byers, a partner with Kleiner Perkins, and Google Ventures’ Krishna Yeshwant will join Foundation Medicine’s board.

Ottawa-based Sidense Corp., a developer of programmable memory IP cores, has raised $5.6 million in additional capital for its Series C round. Ontario Emerging Technologies Fund contributed to the round, as did Tech Capital Partners, VentureLink and Vertex Venture Capital.

Shopify, maker of a platform to create and run online stores, has closed on $15 million in new financing. Bessemer Venture Partners, FirstMark Capital, Felicis Ventures and Georgian Partners provided the Series B round, which brings the company’s total funding to $22 million.

Chinese social gaming company Happy Elements has closed a $30 million Series B round led by Legend Capital with participation from existing investor DCM. The money will be used to expand into new markets, and to launch several new smartphone games in the next year. Two-year-old Happy Elements has roughly 300 employees and is based in Beijing.
