CDIB Capital has appointed Hamilton Tang, previously group chief executive of Simon Murray & Company (SMC), and YingHai Xie, a partner with SMC Capital China, the Chinese private equity unit of investment firm SMC, as the firm’s newest senior managing directors, according to a company statement.
Tang will be managing director in Hong Kong, while Xie will be take up his role in Shanghai. The pair, who have over 40 years of combined investment experience in Asia, will be responsible for overseeing the firm’s investments in the region as it continues to expand its business.
Prior to joining CDIB Capital, Tang was group CEO of Greater China-focused investment firm SMC and managing partner of SMC Capital China. He used to be the co-CEO of Lark Entertainment, a regional entertainment company and vice president at Morgan Stanley investment banking division in New York and Hong Kong.
Xie was a partner at SMC where he was responsible for private equity investments in China. Prior to joining SMC, he was managing director of Milestone Capital, vice president of The Carlyle Group, associate director of Standard Chartered Private Equity and an investment manager at Olympus Capital.
Along with the Tang and Xie, the firm has appointed Sandy Ng as senior vice president in the investment and portfolio management team out of Shanghai. She was formerly a principal of SMC. Prior to SMC, she was the investment manager at Xcelerate Ltd., a Shanghai-based investment firm focused on early stage companies, and used to be project development manager in a Singapore-based private equity fund focused on seed stage projects in Chengdu, China.
CDIB Capital is the private equity arm of China Development Financial and manages over $1.2 billion of assets. The firm is currently deploying CDIB Capital Asia Partners Fund which closed on $405 million in July 2016.
