Crescendo Ventures appoints general partner

The Palo Alto early-stage investor has hired high-tech expert Peter van Cuylenburg as general partner.

Palo Alto, California-based Crescendo Ventures has appointed Peter van Cuylenburg as a general partner.

Van Cuylenburg will focus on the semiconductor, convergence and computing sectors in addition to assisting Crescendo portfolio companies with trans-Atlantic expansion.

Prior to the appointment, van Cuylenburg served as president of Quantum Corporation’s DSS Group, a data storage solutions business and also held the positions of executive vice president of Xerox Corporation, running all of the company’s digital businesses; president of NeXT Computer; and chief executive officer of Mercury Communications, a UK-based telecommunications service provider.

Managing partner David Spreng says the addition of van Cuylenburg represents the third senior operating executive the venture firm has brought aboard in an effort to better serve portfolio companies. “The opportunities they’ve had to work with these companies by serving as executives or chairmen and observing how they work in close circumstances makes them ideal to help entrepreneurs with building a successful business.”

Crescendo, which manages more than $1 billion in capital, is an early-stage venture capital firm that invests in digital infrastructure companies that cater to telecoms, enterprises and consumers. Founded in 1993, the firm also has offices in Minneapolis and London.
