Tahira Dosani has joined Venture Lab, an early stage impact investing fund owned by Accion International, as director of portfolio engagement.
Dosani was formerly director of global engagement and strategic projects at social impact firm Leapfrog Investments, which invests in insurance and related financial services in Africa and Asia.
Before Leapfrog, Dosani was director of strategy at the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development in Dubai. She began her career as a Bain & Company consultant.
At Venture Labs, she’ll be “working with portfolio companies in emerging markets to help them grow in terms of both profitability and social impact”, she told Private Equity International.
Accion’s Venture Lab is a $10 million social impact program to provide seed capital to startups worldwide.
The fund, launched in 2012, will target social media, technology and financial services in East Africa, South Asia and Latin America. It aims to invest in 20 new companies over three years, according to PEI’s Research & Analytics division.
Boston, MA-based Accion International is an investor in microfinance institutions in emerging markets and in the US with $325 million in assets under management. According to the firm, it has helped build 63 microfinance institutions in 32 countries on four continents.
