Doughty Hanson looks to Spain

The latest manager to launch a public fund is beefing up its continental European presence with a new office and hires in Madrid.

Doughty Hanson & Co, a European private equity firm, has opened an office in Madrid and hired two executives to spearhead its activities in Spain and Portugal.

Francisco Gutierrez Churtichaga is joining with immediate effect as principal and head of private equity in Madrid.  He previously worked at JP Morgan Partners, originating and executing private equity investments in Spain. 

Juan Barba Silvela will join Doughty in December as principal and head of real estate in Madrid with effect from December 2006.  He was formerly general manager at Aareal Bank, a German property specialist, in Spain.  Previously he was with the Principal Finance Group in the US and in Spain.

The opening of the Madrid office is a continuation of Doughty Hanson’s pan-European and regional strategy with local offices already in London, Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Paris and Stockholm.

Last week, the firm launched began formal marketing of a publicly listed vehicle targeting as much as €1.15 billion.
