General Atlantic has named eBay’s former chief financial officer Robert Swan as an operating partner in its resources group.
Swan, who will be based in the firm's California office, will assist General Atlantic’s portfolio companies with mergers and acquisitions, as well as its finance activities. He will also work with the firm’s team that invests in internet and technology businesses.
Bill Ford, chief executive of General Atlantic, said that Swan’s expertise in the internet and technology sector will help him serve the firm’s portfolio companies and originate “prospective new investments around the world”.
Swan was eBay’s CFO for nine years and has held CFO stints at a number of companies, including Electronic Data Systems, TRW and Webvan Group. The executive, who also sits on the boards of eBay and Applied Materials, began his finance career at General Electric in 1988.
In April, General Atlantic hired Anish Batlaw, TPG Capital’s former operating partner and head of human capital for Asia, for its resources group. The group assists in managing a range of activities for its portfolio companies, including personnel, staffing, finance and technology functions, and also assists in identifying companies for investment.
