The Global Environment Fund, an investor in businesses that provide energy and resource efficiencies has hired John Fox as managing director. Fox will join the US private equity team.
Prior to joining GEF, Fox was a senior managing director at Perseus where he was responsible for private equity transactions in the energy sector. Previously, Mr. Fox was chief operating officer for Ontario Power, one of North America’s largest electric utilities, where he was responsible for generation, transmission, and distribution.
Fox is also a board member for Haverfield Aviation, a provider of aerial power line inspection and construction support service and a GEF portfolio company. He also serves on the Board of Energate, Inc., a provider of residential demand response for utilities and home energy management solutions.
GEF is currently in market for its GEF African Sustainable Forestry Fund II, which has a $200 million target according to Private Equity International’s research and analytics division. Earlier this month GEF acquired an 8.9% stake in Shakti Pumps, a manufacturer of submersible pumps. The company recently launched a solar powered version of its pump technology. The total investment from GEF was $7.4 million.
