- UK buyout activity falls 73%
First quarter deal activity reflects a ‘UK buyout market showing little sign of life’, according to recent data that shows just £2bn has been invested so far this year, compared with £7.5bn in the first quarter 2008.

Almost half of the banking giant’s £10.4bn leveraged loan book comprises loans relating to the take-private of Alliance Boots and the AA Saga merger. The bank is holding the loans, rather than selling ‘into an unwilling market’.

The wife of Singapore’s prime minister will in October cease leading Temasek, which has come under fire for financial services over-exposure. The sovereign fund and avid private equity player will be led by ex-BHP Billiton chief executive Chip Goodyear, a succession that has been planned for 'more than a year'.
- Barclays Capital appoints private equity banking head in Japan
The investment banking wing of Barclays Bank has also hired a director for its financial sponsors group. Both hires were formerly from Lehman Brothers.
- BC Partners makes top management changes
Chairman Jens Reidel has stepped down as part of a planned retirement process, handing co-chairman roles to managing partners Francesco Loredan and Raymond Svider. Next month John Hosgood, Barclays’ former co-head of leveraged finance, will join the firm to lead a push into credit strategies that will be largely focused on purchasing debt in its own deals.
