Providence Equity Partners has hired Karen Gordon, former senior partner at The Boston Consulting Group, as a managing director in the firm’s portfolio operations group.
Gordon began working in Providence’s New York office last month, reporting to managing director Charles Gottdiener, who leads the operations group. At BCG, which she joined in 1996, Gordon led the firm’s consumer and retail practice and center for consumer and customer insight. Additionally, she led marketing and sales efforts for the consumer practice.
In a statement, Providence chief executive officer Jonathan Nelson praised Gordon’s “record of helping companies translate consumer and customer insights into profitable growth” and her abilities “assisting companies with large scale change, including merger integration and major strategic initiatives”.
Prior to BCG, Gordon was a brand manager at Proctor & Gamble, where she assisted in turning around brands including Children’s NyQuil and Metamucil.
Gordon’s hiring comes roughly five months afterProvidence hired Renée Beaumont as a managing director and global head of business development.
Providence closed its Fund VII on $5 billion in July. The firm focuses on investments in media, communications, education and information companies and manages $37 billion in commitments.
