Derek Smyth, former managing director at OMERS Ventures, has been named chief revenue officer at Vision Critical, an OMERS Ventures portfolio company.
Vision Critical provides market intelligence software and services to help companies engage customers on a continuous basis. OMERS Ventures invested in the company in 2012. Smyth joined OMERS Ventures in November 2011, prior to which he was a partner at Toronto-based private equity firm Edgestone Capital Partners. He was previously president and chief executive officer of Ottawa-based broadband controls company Bridgewater Systems.
At Vision, Smyth will work with the sales and marketing teams on global market strategies to accelerate growth and expand into new markets.
“When you have global brands clamouring to tell the world about the impact your software has made on their business, it speaks volumes about the product and people at Vision Critical,” Smyth said in a statement.
OMERS Ventures, which added Jim Orlando as a new managing director last October, officially launched in October 2011. The group invests in sectors including technology, media, telecommunications, clean tech and life sciences. It will invest only in North America.
