TA Associates hires London VP

Christian Gruenwald has joined the London office of TA Associates from General Atlantic Partners in Düsseldorf.

Boston-headquartered buyout firm TA Associates has announced the appointment of Christian Gruenwald as a vice president in the recently formed London office.

The firm, which also has an office in Menlo Park, California, opened the London office in 2003, which is currently staffed by director Ajit Nedungadi and two associates.

Gruenwald has more than five years’ European private equity experience. He began his professional career as a consultant at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, before becoming an associate at McKinsey & Company in Zurich.

Most recently, Gruenwald worked in the German office of General Atlantic Partners, specialising in buyouts, minority investments and PIPEs in the technology, business and financial services sectors.

At TA Associates, Gruenwald will support the firm’s expansion in Europe, focusing on growth equity capital, leveraged recapitalisations and management buyouts according to a press release.

Commenting on the appointment, which took effect from March 1st, CEO Kevin Landry said in a statement: “TA has experienced considerable success in Europe through its London operation. There are significant investment opportunities in this market and we are excited to have Christian onboard to help implement our investment strategy in Europe.”

The firm has made a number of investments in the region to date including replacement vehicle provider Drive Assist UK and Irish fixed income markets trading solutions provider Ion Group.

Founded in 1968, the firm manages more than $6 billion in capital and has invested in more than 350 companies worldwide. The firm’s primary deal-sourcing process is cold calling – in a recent interview with Private Equity International, Landry estimated that the firm would place calls to approximately 8,000 companies in 2004.
