DataXu has appointed Dan Demmer to its board of directors. Demmer will become an independent director and chair of DataXu’s audit committee. He is an operating partner at OpenView Venture Partners. Headquartered in Boston, DataXu is a real-time media management platform for digital advertising campaigns. Its backers include Menlo Ventures, Atlas Venture, Flybridge Capital Partners and Thomvest Ventures.

Ethan Beard, a former Facebook director and a member of the Silicon Valley cover band Coverflow, has joined Greylock Partners as entrepreneur-in-residence. Beard, who's Greylock bio is available here, was previously director of the developer network at Facebook, the social networking company in which Greylock was an early investor.

Druva has named Peter Amirkhan as its chief revenue officer. Previously, Amirkhan worked at SeaMicro where he served as worldwide vice president of sales. Headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif., Druva is a provider of integrated data protection and governance solutions for laptops, PCs, smartphones and tablets. It is backed by Nexus Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital and Tenaya Capital.

The National Venture Capital Association said Tuesday that it has hired Ben Veghte as its vice president of communications. The appointment becomes effective February 10, 2014. Prior to joining NVCA, Veghte worked at The Glover Park Group where he served as director of strategic communications.

Kofax Limited said Tuesday that it has named James A. Urry as a non-executive director and member of the nominating committee. The appointment became effective February 3, 2014. Urry has been a partner at Augusta Columbia Capital Group since 2011. Based in Irvine, Calif., Kofax Limited is a provider of smart process applications software.

General Catalyst Partners, which in December raised $675 million for its seventh fund, has added Paul Sagan as a partner and XIR. Sagan was an early employee at Akamai Technologies and served as its CEO from 2005 to 2013. Sagan's previous association with General Catalyst came last fall when the firm led a $25 million growth funding round in Datto, a Norwalk, Conn.-based provider of backup data and recovery services. Sagan became non-executive chairman of Datto as part of the funding.

Joerg Sievert has left his role as managing director of SAP Ventures European Advisors, according to an e-mail that was confirmed by the firm. His LinkedIn profile does not yet list a new position, but the e-mail sent on Wednesday notes that he has accepted a job as a managing director of a "global fund."
