Warburg Pincus brings on three for healthcare group

The new hires will be executives-in-residence

New York-based Warburg Pincus has hired three new executives-in-residence (EIRs) for the healthcare group. The EIRs will focus on exploring investment opportunities in the healthcare industry, including the areas of consumer-driven healthcare, biopharmaceuticals, and population health.

David Kirchhoff, one of the EIRs comes from Weight Watchers International where he was CEO. Kirchhoff was the sixth employee and the first senior hire at WeightWatchers.com in 2000, initially serving as SVP of strategy and business development before serving as CEO. At Warburg, he will focus on consumer and digital health.

Philip Gioia will join the firm from Glenmark Pharmaceuticals where we was previously president of North America and also oversaw its global active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) business. In his EIR role, Gioia will focus on the biopharmaceuticals sector.

Finally, Richard Hassett M.D. joins the firm from NovaSom, a connected health company where he was president and CEO. NovaSom launched the nation’s only wireless device for at-home diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea. In his role as EIR, Dr. Hassett will focus on population health and accountable care.

EIRs act as industry experts within Warburg Pincus as the firm considers investment opportunities and works through the origination process.

Recent healthcare investments for the firm include Specialists On Call, a telemedicine provider; ComplexCare Solutions, a care management services provider, and Beijing Amcare Women’s & Children’s Hospital, an OBGYN hospital system in China.
