Adveq expands in Asia

Starting this April, former HRJ and GIC Special Investments executive Darren Wong will lead the firm’s Asian fund of funds investment programme from its Beijing office.

Swiss fund of funds manager Adveq has hired Darren Wong as an executive director in Beijing for its Asian operations.

Wong was most recently with San Francisco-based HRJ Capital, where he was in charge of global venture capital and Asian private equity funds. Before that, he was based in the US with GIC Special Investments, the private equity arm of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation, where he invested in venture capital firms and technology startups.

“His many years in private equity investing in Asia and the United States, in particular his focus on growth capital and technology, bring additional depth and experience to our six-strong investment team in Asia,” Bruno Raschle, managing director of Adveq, said in a statement.

Separately, the firm promoted Tim Creed to executive director from vice president at the start of 2009. Creed is currently in charge of Adveq’s European funds of funds programme.

Adveq opened its Beijing office in 2007 to invest from its $200 million debut Asia fund. The firm presently manages $4 billion in assets and has three other offices in Zurich, Frankfurt and New York.
