Emergence Capital Partners said Tuesday that it has funded the spin-out of CrunchBase from AOL. Financial terms weren’t announced. AOL will continue to hold a significant stake. Jager McConnell, former VP of sales cloud products at Salesforce.com, was named CEO of CrunchBase.

Axel Springer is near a transaction to buy Business Insider in a deal that values the company at $560 million, Re/code reported. A deal for the business news site could come in weeks, the story said. The German publisher already owns a stake in Business Insider, Re/code said.

Veritas Capital said Tuesday that it has agreed to acquire the embedded technology and systems business from General Electric Co. Financial terms weren’t announced. GE’s Embedded Systems business provides open architecture electronic systems for aerospace, defense, and industrial solutions. The business is headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama and employs about 700 people globally.

KKR said Tuesday that it is backing Roland Wessel, Colin Judd and Melvyn Horgan to launch Trans European Oil & Gas Ltd. Financial terms weren’t announced.
