Signifyd Inks $2M

Signifyd, a risk and fraud prevention platform, as raised $2 million from Andreessen Horowitz, Data Collective, IA Ventures, QED Investors, Resolute.VC, Tekton Ventures, and undisclosed angel investors. The company will use the infusion to bolster its engineering and development efforts. Signifyd was founded in 2011 and is based in Palo Alto, Calif.

Google Ventures Leads Round for FitStar

FitStar, a developer of a video-based iPad app focused around fitness, has closed a $1 million seed round led by Google Ventures. Other early backers include Advancit Capital and FLOODGATE Fund.

Madrona Leads $5M for LUMO BodyTech

LUMO BodyTech, a smart sensor and big data startup, has closed a $5 million Series A round led by Madrona Venture Group. Backers also include Innovation Endeavors and Jerry Yang. The funding will go toward bolstering sales and marketing, product development and engineering.

uShip.com Adds $18M from KPCB

uShip.com, online shipping marketplace, has closed an $18 million Series C financing round with Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, the company announced. As a result, Maritza Liaw, Partner at KPCB, will join uShip’s board.

Square 1 Bank Backs BioSurplus with $1.75M

Square 1 Bank has provided $1.75 million in debt financing to BioSurplus Inc., a provider of equipment management solutions and pre-owned scientific instruments to the life sciences industry. BioSurplus was formed in 2002.

Discovery Communications Backs Grockit

Social learning startup Grockit has sealed an investment from Discovery Communications Inc., as part of a round that includes Summit Group, Atlas Venture, Benchmark Capital, Integral Capital Partners and GSV Capital Corp. Terms of the round were not released.

ParkWhiz Inks $2M Series A

ParkWhiz, a Chicago-based company that helps users find and reserve guaranteed parking spots, has raised $2 million in Series A financing, the company announced. Hyde Park Venture Partners led the round. Hyde Park Angels, Amicus Capital, Alexis Ohanian, Garry Tan, Henry J. Feinberg and Amreesh Modi also participated in the investment.

Horizon Technology , Bridge Bank Back Newport Media

Horizon Technology Finance Corporation and Bridge Bank, National Association have provided a $10 million venture loan to Newport Media Inc. Newport Media is a fabless communications semiconductor company.

Catbird Inks Equity Investment

Catbird, a maker of security and compliance technology for virtualized and private cloud data centers, has sealed an undisclosed amount of financing from Medina Capital.

Appfluent Technology Inks $4.4M

Appfluent Technology has raised $4.4 million in “Series AA” venture funding from Novak Biddle Venture Partners, the company announced. Appfuent is a provider of big data warehouse management software.
