SmartSynch Buys Applied Mesh Technologies

SmartSynch Inc., a Jackson, Miss.-based provider of public wireless smart metering technology, has acquired Applied Mesh Technologies, a Macon, Ga.-based provider of energy monitoring and usage control solutions to to utilities and their enterprise customers. No financial terms werei disclosed. SmartSynch has raised around $80 million in total VC funding since 2000, from firms like Battelle Ventures, Beacon Group, Credit Suisse, Endeavor Capital Management, GulfSouth Capital, Innovation Valley Partners, Kinetic Ventures, OPG Ventures and Siemens Venture Capital.

Adknowledge Bulks Up

Adknowledge, a Kansas City-based provider of behavioral online advertising solutions, has acquired the advertising business of Lookery for an undisclosed amount. Adknowledge raised $48 million in funding in 2006 from Technology Crossover Ventures.

Barracuda Bites Into BitLeap

Barracuda Networks Inc., a Campbell, Calif.-based provider of email and Web security appliances, has acquired BitLeap, a provider of offsite data backup and disaster recovery solutions. No financial terms were disclosed. Barracuda raised a $40 million Series A round in 2005 from Sequoia Capital and Francisco Partners.

Machinima.com Raises $3.85 Million

Machinima.com, a Santa Cruz, Calif.-based online contnet network that melds entertainment and gaming, has raised $3.85 million in funding led by MK Capital.
