ETF appoints vice chairman for targeted regions

The international private equity group has plans to develop its presence in the UK, Ireland and the Nordic region over the next six months.

Venture capital firm ETF Group has appointed Lorcan Burke vice president for the UK, Ireland and Nordic region.

Burke joins ETF Group from Firstmark Communications, where he was vice president of technology and operations. He was responsible for product development and technology strategy, managing a team of over 100 people. His earlier professional experience includes over ten years spent with Nortel in the UK, France and Australia.

ETF Group has been building its team in the UK since opening a London office at the end of last year. The group has invested in 12 UK and Nordic-based companies, and has plans to increase its portfolio in the UK, Ireland and the Nordic region over the next six months.

Olav Ostin, managing director of ETF Group UK, said: “We feel that one of ETF Group's major strengths is our technical knowledge and understanding, as we are continually looking at investment opportunities in emerging technology companies. Lorcan's expertise in building, deploying and integrating technologies, especially network related technologies, will be a very valuable asset when assessing each company's technology and prospects. Lorcan will also increase ETF Group's links with universities and technology companies, in order to access promising technologies to invest in.”

ETF Group focuses on enabling technologies such as broadband, wireless and MEMS (microelectrical mechanical systems), e-services, business-to-business e-commerce platforms, communities and exchanges, as well as web-enablement of financial services.
