FirstPoint partner forms new business – exclusive

Alex Bance has left the European placement agent and formed Calpa Capital, Private Equity International has learned.

A former partner at European placement agent FirstPoint Equity launched his own business after leaving the firm, Private Equity International has learned.

Alex Bance has formed Calpa Capital, a credit-focussed placement agent, according to his LinkedIn profile. A spokesman for FirstPoint confirmed the departure and conveyed the firm’s best wishes for Bance’s new venture. The latter did not respond to a request for comment by press time.

FirstPoint has made a raft of senior appointments over the past 24 months. The firm hired partner Craig Lewis, former co-head of private markets at duPont Trust in 2017, as well as three new managing directors.

Bance joined FirstPoint in 2011 as one of three executives tapped from JPMorgan Cazenove’s European fund placement team.

FirstPoint was founded the previous year by Justin Bower, a former co-head of Europe at Park Hill Group. The firm has raised funds for managers including Nordic buyout firm Axcel, Ireland’s Cardinal Capital and Asian mid-market firm Olympus Capital, according to its website.
