With valuations proving a point of contention between would-be vendors and acquirers, sales of private equity portfolios to secondary buyers have been relatively subdued in recent months. But the need to free up capital means action will have to be taken sooner rather than later - and that's why secondaries specialists believe a highly productive period lies ahead. - Pantheon hires Brian Lim from CDC
Pantheon Ventures, one of the earliest fund of funds entrants in the Asian market, has hired Brian Lim from UK government-backed CDC Group. Lim will join the firm's Hong Kong-based team, currently investing an $800m Asian fund of funds.
- HarbourVest backs Lehman VC spin-out
A management group from Lehman Brothers Venture Partners will spin-out to become Tenaya Capital, which will have $750m in capital and 45 portfolio companies. HarbourVest completed a synthetic secondary transaction as part of the spin-out.

- JLL to acquire pharmaceutical developer
The New York-based private equity firm will purchase the outstanding shares of PharmaNet Development Group for $5 a share in a deal valued at close to $100 million.

The private equity fund of funds has hired former Unigestion secondaries executive Francesco di Valmarana amid increasing activity in the global secondaries market. The appointment brings the number of Pantheon's European secondaries team members to 25.
