SAFE Investment Company

SAFE Investment Company is a subsidiary of China’s State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE). The company is organized as a private company and it helps the government agency (SAFE) manage China's foreign exchange reserves.

As of 2013, it is reported that SAFE is planning to allocate about 5% of the reserves for alternative assets. A New York operation of SAFE has been set up in May 2013 to invest in private equity, real estate and other alternative assets, as part of SAFE's more diversified investment strategy to reduce its heavy exposure to U.S. government debt.
