SCM appoints new head of PE

Swiss gatekeeper Strategic Capital Management has made two new additions to its private equity team and has announced the promotion of Ralph Aerni to head up the division.

Strategic Capital Management AG, the Zurich-based private equity fund manager, has promoted Ralph Aerni to head up its private equity team which has also been strengthened by the addition of professionals Christian Boehler and Oliver Hahn.

Aerni, who joined the firm in early 2003 from Swiss Life Private Equity Partners AG, was previously a senior analyst responsible for the selection and due diligence of private equity partnerships. He will head up the expanded team of ten investment professionals at SCM.

Aerni takes over from CEO and founder partner, Stefan Hepp who will be concentrating on business development going forward. Hepp said that the firm will be “expanding abroad and new areas and a new range of services will soon be announced.”

Boehler joins as senior analyst from consultancy PriceWaterhouseCoopers, where he was an auditor responsible for the investment management of private equity companies. Hahn, who was previously a controller for the retailer Metro Group, joins as an analyst.

SCM provides institutional services for alternative investment portfolios on a non-discretionary basis. It currently advises client assets in excess of SFr3.3 billion (€2.1 billion; $2.6 billion), almost double the amount it advised on 14 months ago according to Hepp.

On 1 April 2004, SCM split the asset management activities of the company into a new entity, Global Investments Schurch and Partner AG, retaining the core activities of private equity and alternative assets advisory services within SCM.
