83North taps ex-EMC CEO/chairman as special adviser

83North has named Joe Tucci as a special adviser. Tucci is the former CEO and chairman of EMC. Currently, he is the co-CEO and co-chairman of GTY Technology Holdings as well as the chairman of Bridge Growth Partners.

NEA promotes one to partner and three to principal

New Enterprise Associates has promoted Amit Mukherjee to partner. Also, the venture firm has upped Matt Sacks, Andrew Schoen and Blake Wu to principal. Mukherjee joined NEA in 2012 while Sacks, Schoen and Wu came on board in 2014.

VC-backed SetPoint Medical names chief medical officer

Santa Clarita, California-based SetPoint Medical, a developer of bioelectronic therapy for chronic inflammatory diseases, has appointed Dr. David Chernoff as chief medical officer. Chernoff has been a chief medical officer for a number of companies that include Crescendo Bioscience, Adamas Pharma, XDX, CardioDX, Tethys Biosciences and Aquinox Pharma. SetPoint's backers include Morgenthaler Ventures, New Enterprise Associates, Topspin Partners, Medtronic, GlaxoSmithKline’s Action Potential Venture Capital Limited and Boston Scientific.

Flagship Pioneering taps JP Morgan's ex-investment banking vice chair as exec partner

Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Flagship Pioneering (formerly known as Flagship Ventures), has appointed Stephen Berenson as an executive partner. Berenson is the former vice chairman of investment banking at JP Morgan. Berenson worked at JP Morgan for more than 33 years.

McRock Capital's Whitney Rockley becomes CVCA's first female chair

Whitney Rockley, co-founder and managing partner of McRock Capital, has been named the new chair of the Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (CVCA). With the appointment, Rockley becomes the first female chair of the association since its inception in 1974. Toronto-based McRock is a venture capital firm focused on the industrial internet of things. Rockley and Managing Partner Scott MacDonald founded the firm in 2012. It closed its debut fund, McRock iNFund LP, at more than $65 million in 2015. Prior to McRock, Rockley was a partner at Emerald Technology Ventures and Nomura New Energy Ventures.

MissionOG taps Heller as senior adviser

Philadelphia-based MissionOG, an early-to-growth stage venture firm, has appointed Michael Heller as senior adviser. Heller is the former president and co-founder of Argus Information & Advisory Services.

VC-backed Avitide hires one as CFO and another as tech development VP

Lebanon, New Hampshire-based biotech company Avitide Inc has named Scott Kennedy as chief financial officer and Karol Lacki as vice president of technology development. Previously, Kennedy was vice president and CFO of PerkinElmer's life sciences solutions division while Lacki worked at Novo Nordisk. Avitide's backers include Polaris Venture Partners, OrbiMed Advisors, Mithril Capital Management, SV Life Sciences, NeoMed Management and Borealis Ventures.

Cimbria taps Hansen as MD for team

Cimbria Capital has named Jens Ulrick Hansen as a managing director. Based in Houston, the private equity firm invests in the water technology and agribusiness sectors in North America and Europe.

VC-backed Profusa appoints former Senate Majority Leader Frist to board

South San Francisco-based Profusa, a developer of sensors for chronic disease management and healthy living, has named Dr. William Frist to its board of directors. Frist is the former U.S. Senate Majority Leader. Currently, he is a partner and chairman of the executive council at Cressey & Co. Profusa is backed by 3E Bioventures. Asset Management Ventures and Qihoo 360.

BVP promotes Segal to VP

Bessemer Venture Partners has promoted Michael Segal to vice president. Segal rejoined BVP in 2015 after taking a two-year break from the venture firm to become a startup founder and product manager. Recently, he was the founder and CEO of Skylight.
