Baker & McKenzie grows German PE team

The international law firm has rehired a former private equity and VC investment banker as a partner in its Munich office.

International law firm Baker & McKenzie is welcoming Dr Lutz Zimmer, formerly of WestLB Panmure, back to the firm where he was an associate from 1997 to 1999.

Zimmer will take up his new role as a partner and legal advisor in Baker & McKenzie’s Munich office from the start of next year, advising on private equity and M&A.

While at WestLB Panmure, Zimmer advised venture capital and private equity firms. Last year, he became a member of the bank’s M&A team and was involved in public and reverse takeovers.

Zimmer said his investment banking background has given him a greater understanding of the realities of business and getting deals done – “A qualification that clients will expect from their lawyers more than ever in the future,” he said.

Baker & McKenzie’s Munich office already has 4 partners and 10 associates and handled deals with the likes of Allianz Capital Partners and APAX in 2001.
