Cinven hires Goldman private equity executive

European buyout group Cinven has bolstered its team ahead of beginning to invest its latest €6.5 bn fund.

Benoît Valentin, a managing director in Goldman Sachs’ European private equity unit, has left to join Cinven, the European buyout firm that recently closed its fourth fund on €6.5 billion ($8.2 billion).

He is joining Cinven as a partner after 12 years at Goldman Sachs, initially within the investment bank in London and Singapore and later within the private equity department in London.

At Goldman he completed several large investments, including Eutelsat, a satellite operator, Legrand, an electrical fittings and accessories manufacturer, and Messer Griesheim, a chemicals company.

Valentin is expected to spend an initial period in Cinven’s London office, before joining its team in Paris in 2007.
