Law firm Clifford Chance has hired Erin Brennan, a US private equity specialist, to be a foreign legal consultant in Hong Kong, a popular base for a number of China-focused and pan-Asian general partnerships.
The appointment by the international law firm reflects an industry-wide trend in a region where a glut of capital is perceived to be chasing deals in markets that are proving to be increasingly challenging to operate within, thanks to new and often unclear rules.
Before joining Clifford Chance, Brennan was a partner at McDermott Will Emery in Boston, where she had worked since graduating from law school in 1999.
Her expertise lies in advising private equity and venture capital companies on multinational investments and acquisitions, according to a statement.
Roger Denny, head of private equity for Asia at Clifford Chance said: “Erin’s US experience is an excellent addition to an already strong team in Asia. She has advised clients at all stages of the private equity cycle, from fund establishment to secondary disposals, and her understanding of the US market will be invaluable.”
The law firm’s Asia private equity team consists of nearly 40 partners and other lawyers. Within Asia, it has offices in Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo.
