Greystar Real Estate Partners has agreed to acquire Education Realty Trust, a developer, owner and manager of collegiate housing communities. The value of the transaction is about $4.6 billion. The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2018. BofA Merrill Lynch is providing financial advice to EdR while J.P. Morgan Securities LLC is doing likewise for Greystar. In conjunction with this acquisition, Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust Inc and a Greystar affiliate will acquire a portfolio of off-campus student housing assets for $1.2 billion. Simpson Thacher is representing BREIT on this deal.

Allianz Real Estate, a real estate investment and asset manager, is acquiring a stake in London-based Chapter, a student accommodation brand. No financial terms were disclosed. Chapter is backed by Greystar Real Estate Partners and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board. Eastdil Secured LLC and Jones Day advised Greystar and PSP Investments on the transaction with Linklaters LLP providing legal advice for PSP Investments. Savills and Herbert Smith Freehills advised Allianz.
