General Atlantic expands West Coast operations

The Greenwich, Connecticut-based firm is sending eight-year GA veteran Marc McMorris to its Silicon Valley office.

US private equity firm General Atlantic continues its West Coast expansion with the relocation of managing director Marc McMorris to the firm’s Palo Alto, California office.

Prior to joining General Atlantic in 1999, McMorris was West Coast-based as the vice president of Goldman SachsHigh Technology Group.

McMorris’ relocation follows last year’s appointment of tech industry veteran Ray Bingham as a managing director for its Silicon Valley office.

“I am very much looking forward to returning to the Bay Area and the West Coast and joining Ray and the team in Palo Alto as we continue to expand GA’s activities here. I have worked closely with Ray for several years and we believe together we are an effective leadership team,” McMorris said in a statement.

General Atlantic opened its California office in 2001. Having raised approximately $11.4 billion in the past five years, the 27-year old private equity firm ranks 18th among the world’s largest buyout firms, according to the PEI 50, a league table compiled by sister publication Private Equity International.
